Texas vines. French wines.
In 1863, French vineyards were plagued with grape phylloxera, a microscopic aphid that eats the roots of grapevines.
It was destroying vineyards across the country.
Desperate, France looked towards the U.S. for help.
A horticulturist and breeder of grapes in Texas, Thomas Volney Munson, found the solution and sent pest-resistant grapevine rootstocks to France. The French then grafted their plants to the Texas roots. This saved the French grape varieties.
Now 158 years later, France is still growing wine grapes on Texas roots.
Honoring French tradition with Texas passion.
